whic is the right tab for us??

A place to post guitar tabs separately from other discussion so it doesn’t get lost in the messages. To make it easy to search we suggest starting a new thread for each song posted and include the song name in your title. We’ll be able to make a nice archive if we keep tab here and discussion on the other forums.

whic is the right tab for us??

Postby multisounds » Mon May 18, 2009 12:12 pm

Hi folks,

I've searched tabs for the following songs:

1/ Messin with a kid- Rory Gallegher
2/Highway to hell-AC/DC

Ok, fine I got them. But wait?????So many tab sites have them and when I downloaded these tabs from few sites there seem to me abit of discrepency in the notes represented in some of them and "I do not trust at all" a few versions either.

So how do I go about solving which one to use?? And how do I know which one is really the "right" version and which one is not??

What should I be looking for in a tab for true authenticity?? For example, some have barlines and some haven't??

Please shed some light if you could.

thx

(It's not actually the cochlea, that just helps pick up sound, it's those nerves when they get to the brain really...)

Hi Folks,

As the saying goes, "architects best defense is his or her personality" against bombardment of criticism, so yes, I'm guessing musos best defense must be their "ears". But wait??? Some people read or follow notes better than others and some don't have good aural perception.

So they rely heavily on notes given. Well perhaps like anything you can fudge it! :D

cheers

If it sounds good thats the right note. Who wants to play just like the record anyway?

I've always used TAB as a starting point for playing a song. Then the bits I can't play or don't feel right I adapt/re-arrange to go with my ability - which is low!

It may not sound exactly like the original, but so what?

Just reaqlised the original post was a long time ago but hope this helps anyway.

10% skill 90% emotion, man. You don't need to be a carbon copy - make a song your own.

Heck one of the first songs I adapted when I switched to slide was by Mumford and Sons, hardly the kind of song yuo'd expect to play that way. But I made it my own version, and put a little bit of me into it.

All the best.
