Postby 601blues » Wed Feb 22, 2006 2:24 pm

[updated:LAST EDITED ON Feb-22-06 AT 09:29 AM (EST)]Ive had the pleasure to sit in with the Cajun fiddlers, on thursday nights for the last several months,Bunch of great guys,Not really my style but I have a lot of fun, they really go out to make me feel like a part of them, they make it a point to try some blues, several times a night!! But the band has been playin since 1947, The 1 founding member left PD, plays squeese box fiddles and Harps, and is super!! and he makes his own mics for thease instuments, outa Telephone speakers,or mouth pieces! no feed back and a warm sound, the one for his harp is mounted inside a pvc pipe and gives a amazeing sound![img]http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c204/601blues/cajunfiddlers008.jpg

[updated:LAST EDITED ON Feb-23-06 AT 02:43 PM (EST)]You're into a whole different mindset with this age group. My son and I attended a Harmonica group here last month and there were several players in their 80's. They had harps, mics and contraptions that stunned the senses.
There was a bass made of two larger harps stacked in a V shape and fixed to the plastic attachment from a vaccuum cleaner with the mic fixed into it. IT had a tuba quality sound that worked great for percussion effects.
And yes they made you feel like you were supposed to be there.

That is just too beautiful. I have met and hung with some of the old guys and didn't realize that how they rig things is universal and due to the times they came up in. Like Santo said they are a different deal. I will pay more attention now.

hey cajun fiddles huh? Old guys huh... been there, still there, well Im from here see. I havnt known any real old cajun musicians personally most of the ones I grew up around mostly ate, cooked, and drank a lot and listened to the jukebox unless we was at a festival or a crawfish boil where they had a live zydeco or french band playing.

These old guys really got a story to tell weather theys musical or not :-)

man, I sure love those crawfish! I went to a Zydeco festival a month ago with my friend Lauren and we had a blast. Those guys sure know how to have a good time. They had some pretty hot music goin down the whole night. The fiddler in the last band was really tearin it up. I wanted to go get him a glass of water after he was done. The guy played the hell outa that thing! I wish there were more music festivals like that down here. There are only about 2 or 3 good festivals down here that only come down once a year... and I cant usually pay for more than 1 of em.
