Setting up a Harmony Stella for slide

Postby ZepBlues » Tue Apr 22, 2008 12:24 am

I recently purchased a Harmony Stella on ebay for about 40 bucks, intending to set it up for slide. What all would you suggest doing? Are saddles and bridges readily available for an older Harmony?

Thanks, ZepBlues

They usually come "set up for slide" :), did you somehow find one that didn't need neck work? Saddles are easy to make yourself from bone blanks (ebay), just need sandpaper and maybe a hacksaw.

Not sure how much difference it makes, but it's an Asian made Harmony.

Here's the auction link : http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEBTOX:IT&item=290222772872&_trksid=p3984.cTODAY.m238.lVI

Not really sure if it's set up for slide or not. At the bottom of the auction, someone asked how high the action was, seller said 3/16'' at the highest point.

3/16" at the 12th fret is more than high enough.

Good deal.

As far a strings go, I don't know too much. I'm figuring about 0.13s or so. Any recommendations as far as brand or type?
Also, I'll mostly be playing open G, will there be any problem with stressing the neck to leave it in G all the time?

My favorite brand is whatever's on sale the cheapest. Open G is tuned down on 3 strings from standard. Won't be a problem.
