Aaaaaaahhhhh, naps. That sounds so good. I find it difficult to sleep in the day or past 6 am either. I practically need to wear myself out completely just to get a good night's sleep.

I'm not really a "napper" - but I am an "opportunistic sleeper" - I can grab a few hours of "rack time" almost anywhere, anytime of day.

And then Caffienate.

That is a true talent - one that I envy and have seen many men possess. If I drink too much coffee I look like this smiley

I cant sleep worth a damn after a gig and I cant sleep past 7AM to save my life. If time permits I try to get a small nap mid day.

Now that it's getting hot again I'll start my day at 5AM and try to be done by 2 at the latest to avoid over heating and I sometimes get in a "Power Nap". 20-40 mins makes a world of difference for me! When all else fails I drink the hell outta "Energy Drinks"!

I must be missing something here. What happened? I think I'll try a quick nap and figure it out later. :?

I have the same worry. I've got a regular gig set up for autumn at the local pub (the "Iron Works", directly on the banks of the Mississippi River in Almonte, Ontario, Canada) hosting a Roots & Blues amateur jam. But I also play hockey 2x a week in winter - one night the games end at 12:00 PM. After having a couple of refreshment, I don't get home till 1:00 AM, needing more time to unwind, etc. Up at 6:00 AM for work or with the kids or both. It wipes me out and I tend to get sick a lot!!! O I spend the rest of the week cathing up on sleep, being a lazy father/husband, and being grumpy!! But I do find that eliminating the beers makes for better sleep, even if you're only getting a few hours of it. Maybe that's the place to start.

I don't know what to do, but figure I'll give up hockey - I'm getting too old for that anyway ...

Gave up drinking and smokin', was the worst 30 minutes of my life

No seriously, 51 goin' on 16 here and started a health 'kick'. Eased off on the grog, cut down a wee bit on roll yur own tobaccy but now investing in some Glucosamine & Fish Oil vitamin supplement for aching joints and circulation. Take a wee 100mg Aspirin every morning, and only get sloshed once every few months when all the drunken desperates come a knockin' at the door.

Shot myself in the foot a bit with the drinking exercise, I still make moonshine whiskey (or is that whisky? :? :) )
Last lot I made wasn't game to sample it because the smell put me back on the floor.
Fuel crisis?...what fuel crisis??? :D
Having a few nips of firewater is the only way my efforts on guitar and or harp sound 1/2 respectable....in my opinion of course.

I set up most of the gigs for the band and I simply won't work on a work night. The newest gig is Friday night from 6:30 pm 'till around midnight. I eat like an athlete on that day. Carbs early and lots of protien to carry me thru the night. I also chomp on an apple before the third set. Drink only water. I dance alot and stomp around alot. I dirty dance with the women in the audience and it burns alot of calories. When I get home I have been up since 5am that morning, worked 8 hours, performed for 6 hours. I get off at 6pm and the show starts at 6:30pm. Not much time in between. I am totally spent when I get home. The next day I work out light, eat all day long and relax. None in the band thinks they can do back to back shows so we don't . We perform about twice a month and that makes us happy. I'd love only Saturday shows but that isn't possible right now. Maybe if the band gets more popular we can do that. Take care of your body and it will take care of you. I didn't play in a band when my kids were growing up. But they're grown and my life is mine again.
