Welcome to the Big Road! Look around...there's plenty of knowledge in here, and lots of players willing to share. I'm glad to see folks your age with an interest in the blues...blues is pure "in yer gut" music.

Mine too ;) I probably started playing blues when I was your age as well, but it's all so fuzzy now (damn non-existent pot habit) at my advanced age of 24.

Do you get a hard time from your friends? I did, but I've mostly fired those people from their positions as friends (there's only so much "Ba-doomp-ba-dooomp My baby dun left me..." that one can take).

i do get sortof a hard time about it, so if someone asks what music i like i just sort of shrug and mumble incomprehensibly. i think they get the impression i'm a jerk cause i won't tell them what i'm listening to!

actually what bothers my friends the most is that i like the rolling stones. they just can't stand that for some reason. i don't know why, it's only rock n roll.

Sorry, I had to fill in the obvious.

I didn't start playing till I was 45 and I'm envious of you for getting the early start. I've got a 12 year old and one that just turned 14 yesterday. The both play music--guitar and marimba; piano and saxaphone, respectively. I've tried to expose them both to blues, but they just shrug it off.

What did your dad do to get you into blues?

Oh yeah, welcome, and please post often. I look forward to hearing from you.

thanks-

when i suddenly decided i was going to teach myself to play the guitar, my dad gave me a bluesbreakers and a cream cd, and i got hooked on them both. a few months later i met a relative with a big blues collection that was so shocked by my interest they just gave me two lightin hopkins cds and an old blues compilation which got me into the older stuff, some of which i actually liked better.

Welcome Oh Well.

You have come to the right place. I wish I had started at your age. I started at age 40 so I missed a quarter century of doing something that I get a lot of pleasure out of.
