New guy----love the site!

Postby juke_boy_bob » Tue May 31, 2005 3:44 am

Just got back into guitar playing (at age 50) after getting rid of my last one ten years ago...what a mistake.

Got a dreadnaught acoustic for cheap but have ordered a Johnson JM-996 reso (love those delta blues). Would like to know what anybody here thinks of this particular axe, other than the paint job. Decent? or have I made a mistake? Looking to expand my skills & once I get my (extremely limited) chops back up & my fingers re-toughened up, then get into futzing with some cool open tunings and some slide playing.

cheers!

Welcome Bob
I've done almost exactly what you've just done. Here you can depend on the BRB family for help, expertise and a lot of good natured humour. We argue and it sometimes get hot but we're all here for the love of the blues and that is what counts, so welcome to the BRB.

I can't help you with the Johnson reso but plenty of others can. However I do play slide (after a fashion). Fortunately there are some real experts on this forum. Great to have another slide player!

Hi Bob!
Beware...I came to this forum playing an innocent all wood guitar in standard tuning. The slider guys came to me in my sleep, and hypmitized me into buying two resonator guitars, and just sitting here, I have 6 different slides scattered on my computer desk.

Bob:

Welcome to the site. Your story just about exactly matches my own. After a ten year hiatus I started playing again about two months ago. I got a Regal RC-1, which is a steel body "Duolian" style reso, and I'm plenty happy with it.

Hope you're having a blast---The RC-1 was definitely on my short list as well.

Welcome, Bob! I'm a harper, but I'm well aware that this place is most heavily populated by plank-spankers, and they're so inspirational that I've been tempted to buy guitars from just observing the G.A.S. reports.(G.A.S.- "Guitar Acquisition Syndrome")
