Another Hello from Tampa

Postby houserocker » Tue Jun 24, 2003 4:27 pm

Hi everyone, I'm Franks freind down here in Tampa. Wanted to ask everybody a few questions so I figured I better get registered. I play Lap Slide but have recently purchased a Liberty Coppertop resonater which I am hooked on! I've been playing for a little over 30 years now and really enjoy the discussions on this board. I grew up in Meridian Mississippi but now live in Tampa. Look forward to hearing from everyone!

Welcome, houserocker! Like I told Frank, I was born in Meridian. Never lived there, but was right over the line in Livingston, Alabama. Still remember from childhood days a restaurant in Meridian named Widemann's with wonderful fried jumbo shrimp!

Hey, Housrocker. Welcome to the Big Road. Is there some kind of growing conspiracy among Mississippianians to take over the Big Road?

Thanks to everyone for the nice welcome. The thing about being from Mississippi is as you may notice is most people don't actually live there anymore, their just from there. All but one of my old freinds have moved away. He has had a house gig at a place in Jackson Miss. with his band, but the place he plays at (The Subway Lounge) is crumbling down and is now closed, they have played there for almost 20 years! Nothing left in Miss. except Casinos. We have a song we play called Casinos in the Cottonfeilds because they are putting Casinos everywhere even in the middle of thr cottonfeilds! Very depressing place (in my opinion).

Hey Houserocker , I just finished watching the DVD "Last Of The Mississippi Jukes". It was all about the fight trying to save the Subway Lounge . It was a pretty decent film . Your buddy doesn't happen to appear in this film does he? There is a performance clip of a lady named Patrice Moncell that will absolutely curl your hair!!!
Anyways , welcome aboard..............

Yes thats The Subway they talk about in the documentary. Dudley appears alot on the film in interviews. Dudley and I along with another guy who lives in Orlando now and still plays with me (for over 30 years!) started The Houserocker about 20 years ago, we are the original members. I have our band down here called The Houserockers and they have The Houserockers in Mississippi. If anyone is interested we share a website at http://www.thehouserockers.net Patricia is another Lady from Meridian who grew up with us, she sure can belt it out!
