Son House painting by Bruneau Auction

[updated:LAST EDITED ON Feb-23-05 AT 11:45 AM (EST)]Hi All,
Bruneau's painting of Son House arrived and it is magnificent! It’s a large painting done on canvas, about 48 x 55 inches. I have set up the auction on eBay and it starts today (Feb 22, 2005) and runs for seven days. I set the starting price to 99 cents because the listing fees at eBay are based on the starting price for the auction, so this way there will be fewer expenses to pay from the proceeds. I’m confident that the bids will drive up the price anyway. Here is the URL for the auction:

And here is the picture, the center of the face is a little washed out from the flash of the camera in this photo (I'm far from a professional photographer), but the actual colors are rich and vibrant:

I want to thank Bruneau for his generous donation and great idea for raising funds to support the Big Road! Happy Bidding!

Regards,
PappyJ

PS Look what I found - remarkable huh?

Outstanding! I've never bid on anything on E-Bay before, but wow, that is a great painting. We love big art in our house, too. Whoever ends up with the painting will need a nice big wall to properly display it. Applause for Bruneau!!

I'm glad the painting made it without bruses and got in America properly..Cos the way Bruneau wraped it in cardboard and bubble plastic I never thought it would arive like a painting but rather like a pancake with a lot of holes in it...I hope it will raise some good money for BRB...I wish you all good luck with bidding..Stefanie

I'm sure you can find a white man who can sing the blues...Oh Yeah...And let's not argue bout it...But I'm sure Janis could sing the blues...Yeah why not paint Joplin...A white woman who sings the blues...Your Stefanie...(I've got the blues in my shoes and the beat in my feet and till where does it get?Well sthraight to my head)just found this one myself(I think)I'm a poet..Know it..Hope I don't blow it

Hi Stefanie,

I know you have a lot on your mind right now, with the departure of your
"best friend", I told you already we're gonna start a bidding for a second painting; the winner decides who I'm gonna paint.

I currently have the high bid on the painting at $61.00. I am "borntocare" on eBay. So, how bad do you all want this painting? I think it was a wonderful idea of Bruneau and Pappy to put it on eBay. No telling what it will go for with over six days left.

Whoa, the bidding is now heating up, snabbit is now winning. This will help keep C2C's sponsorship of BRB going for a while longer. This is exciting.

Hi Bruneau,
I'd like to wait until this auction is complete, then we will set up an auction for your next painting, subject to be chosen by the winner of the auction. I think it would be better if the auctions do not compete with each other.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON Feb-25-05 AT 09:29 AM (EST)]Well, the bidding seems to have stalled out at $133.50 for the last day or so. I know we can do better! I know many of you are on other blues lists - have you thought about promoting this auction to those other lists? If we do that it may help us raise more money. I'm sure Bruneau spent a fair amount just to cover the expense of paint, canvas, wood, and postage from Belgium to the US (not to mention his time), so I'd like to see his investment pay off in a big way. I see that many of his paintings have sold for over $1000, so I think we are way under the market. If we promote this more widely perhaps we'll find someone with deep pockets that would like an original Bruneau! Bruneau - maybe you could promote this to people or organizations who have purchased your art in the past, or maybe you have already done that?

Regards,
PappyJ
