Of a chord--- allows playing of 7th, root 9th, 4, 5 6 in one managable hand span.

Tell me about inversion of a mode.

Those inversions always create a challenge for me, because the voicing is so different. That's where partial chords may be in order..even just a couple notes. You might have to change your bass line to accomodate an inversion, soundwise. It can force some decisions on you. Very handy for walkdowns & quick passages however.
