whats people's view on them?

i know there not 100% blues but they have taken that style & twisted it with garage rock & 21st century flavour. I never payed any attention to them for ages untill i found there death letter cover on youtube & got there first lp. God was i wrong when i assumed it was all media hype behind them they are now onew of my all time groups, i got all there albums in a 2 week period, i think there amazing tbh, the first album i think is the best there cover of robert johnsons stop breaking down is ok but i prefer the son house cover more.

whats people's view on them.......... :?:

I'm not a fan, but Meg's nice to look at.

I really enjoy Jack White's work (producing, guitar, vocals) on Loretta Lynn's Van Lear Rose.

I listened to Icky Thump and disliked a lot of it.

Never liked 'em. Sounds like they're trying to rip off the Black Keyes

I haven't heard that album but haven't liked the stuff off of it that made the radio. I've got the previous 4 albums. De Stjil is the most bluesy and I think my favorite. One thing I like about the Stripes is their songs are really original and even though they throw them together fast they come out pretty awesome.

I don't get why people always bring up the Black Keys in relation to this band, they have two completely different sounds.

Ball and Biscuit is probably my favorite tune by them, it just stomps.

Heh, ditto. A friend tells me "HEY if you like the Stripes you looooove Zeppelin!" But it turns out I just like the Stripes.

Ball & Biscuit is awesome. Another good bluesy number, Little Bird: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_lk50de5yc

I love them!

I bash out a slide version of Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground

I love most of their stuff really!

Theres a video somewhere on youtube of them playing Stop Breaking Down, that's a pretty cool cover, and somewhere I've seen on of them doing Grinnin' in Your Face

All I've ever heard was their early stuff which IMHO was aweful.

Black Keyes comparision, from me comes from Jack trying to play bluey stuff.

i cant believe people dont like the white stripes!!

i am very fussy about bands but i think there amazing tbh, i got all there albums in the space of a week, there first album i think is amazing.

lol @ the led zeppelin comments, how anyone can think they sound alike is beyond me, i had only ever heard 2 of there tunes before & i got a best of & i throught it was shit, they murdered that blind willie johnson tune nobodys fault but mine i throught they would sound like a mix of the doors & black sabbath but was i wrong about that one.

somewhere I've seen on of them doing Grinnin' in Your Face

i read in a book about them that it was that son house tune that made jack white fall in love with the blues, it said he was into diffrent music to his mates & on hearing that tune he got more sonhouse records & did the same as me (chasing delta music around every record shop in the city) the first white stripes album is dedicated to sonhouse & they covered death letter on there 2nd album too, here is a link to death letter jack white style - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-t1_ETuWIbE

to the people who dont like them..........i suggest you go to your local library & get there first album, as i said i got all there albums in a week as i find them amazing & i rate there first album far better than any of the others, there is a robert johnson cover, a bob dylan cover & st james infermary blues cover too. you have gotta admit though jack white plays a mean slide guitar!!!

also check that death letter cover & let me know what you think, it aint as good as sonhouse but then again you cant improve on perfection.
