Bluesman Jailed for Child Sex Offences

Postby Newshound » Thu Mar 12, 2009 6:37 pm

Hi,

I'm a Scottish court reporter and had to write up the case below for the national media. But because he was already in custody we don't have a picture of this guy. If anyone can help I'd appreciate an e-mail to macha1@live.co.uk

Cheers

By Campbell Thomas

A MUSICIAN called Harmonica Mac who had sex with a 13-year-old girl he met on
the internet was today <<THU>> jailed for four years.

Ian McInally, 42, started a sexual relationship with the youngster after contacting
her on the social networking site MySpace, where she claimed to be 19.

McInally, of the Scottish blues band Harmonica Mac & the Groovecats, admitted
having unlawful sex on various occasions between June and November 2008.

He also admitted taking indecent pictures of the girl in sexually provocative poses,
making a video of them having sex together and keeping a stash of child pornography
at his home.

Online messages between McInally and his victim became sexual within a week and
they exchanged suggestive text messages.

A month after their first contact they met at Woolworths in Dingwall High Street and
the following day went to Blackmuir Woods, near Strathpeffer.

The girl would tell her parents she was staying with a friend but in reality McInally
picked her up in his car and drove her to woods on the Brahan Estate in Ross-shire for
weekly sex sessions.

McInally was caught after his victim told a friend who then told a teacher, and police
were contacted.

He told officers that at an early point he knew her age and she knew he was 42,
adding: "It was like no difference with being with somebody that's of a legal age."

McInally, of Fraser Road, Invergordon, also told the girl that if anyone found out
what was going on between them, his life would be over.

Murray Macara, defending, told the High Court at Kilmarnock a psychiatric report
described McInally as a "lonely, isolated individual who has low self-esteem".

The former sceffolder had developed mental health issues, obsessive compulsive and
eating disorders since giving up work for health reasons in 2002.

Mr Macara said: "He does acknowledge the seriousness of the situation. He has
clearly strayed across a barrier that is unforgivable."

The judge, Lady Dorrian, said the social inquiry report was concerning in itself, but
the joint sex offenders project report was "considerably more concerning" because it
came from a specialist unit.

The report stated experts doubted whether McInally really appreciated the affects of
his conduct on the complainer or her family.

McInally was given an extended four-year jail term with three years supervision on
his release. His name was added to the sex offenders register and sent to Scottish
Ministers as a person unsuitable for working with children.

Jailing him, Lady Dorrian told McInally: "I consider an extended sentence is
necessary for the protection of the public."

A Google image search brings up a picture on this board of him with some of our other friends. And other pics.

A sad story, that.

The man who taught me most of my musical sklls had a near miss. In a pub in town, he was talking to this absolutely top ten young woman, make up, tight top, correctly filled. He was about to take her home to his place when she let slip "You wouldn't think I was only 14, would you?". He back pedalled immediately, made excuses and left, severely shaken.

I say this not to diminish the gravity of Harmonica Mac's offence, but to point out that somewhere along the way, the girl and her parents themselves played some part in this. I know the degree of contact the internet gives us, we're all here after all; perhaps now the girl''s family will keep her on a tighter rein.

You know you shouldnt believe everything you read in the newspapers although I always knew that, I never realised how true that saying is til now.
Nobody knows the real stories behind these cases, and there is plenty of them. Nobody should take the silly stories that the reporters write as gospel.
The sad thing about society today is that reporters will write anything to sell their stories, and police will say anything to get a result.
I know what your saying about parents taking responsibilty for their families, but honestly these females will do what they want anyway, becuase they apparently can't break the law, and there is no defence whatever the story maybe, because for the man in any of these cases the men are told not to say anything in their own defence as it will only go against them.
But a 15 year old girl can have a baby with a 12 year old boy and the government says they will support them all the way, if it was the other way round the boy would be charged.
It seems to me there is no law to protect vulnrable men, only under age females, and these females can be ruthless.

Yeah, but alot of us guys are helpless against advances from women; we can be pathetic when it comes to thinkin' clearly in the face of battle. I'm somewhat fortunate, in that I sometimes get scared around aggressive women...I wanna run away if I'm not the one making the advances. I'm married, so I need to run away in those instances. If you're gonna play in bars, you prob'ly need to watch out for underage girls.

Or "sweet 16"

Face it, musicians have been having trouble with this since there has been music. Young women have a fascination with musicians and musicians have a weakness when it comes to easily obtainable fleshly recreation. As Jimmy Buffet said:

"15 will get you twenty, but thats alright"

The number of single-post members posting in this thread is pretty interesting.

I just deleted a pretty gross off-colour post from May '09 from a three-post poster.

Well, I've only got a few posts going on here, but this title certainly gets your attention.

And then it's pretty disturbing in this day and age to still see so many men with the "little minxes tricking men to their downfalls," responses.

Sorry. Kids don't know what they're doing, and what the implications are. Adults have no excuse. The blame goes all to one side. Obviously if the person has no idea that the girl or boy is underage that's another thing - and it's possible if rare. But it's simply never ok to have sex with kids. End of story.
