You want Lawrence Welk Show trivia, I wish you could've met my grandmother. She knew great detail about the personal lives of everyone on that show.

I don't remember much Lawrence Welk growin up but Ed Sullivan was a main stay around our house and I still do my imitation of "Topo Geejo" (spelling) that cracks my mom up every time!

[updated:LAST EDITED ON Apr-10-06 AT 01:55 PM (EST)][em]Thank you for the lovely tune, that funky music will drive us till the dawn. Let's go, let's boog-a-loo till we puke![/em]

My maternal grandmother loves that show. Blech. My other grandmother likes rock (of all sorts- Elvis through Weezer), blues, etc (ie, the good stuff).

Did they have plastic covers on their couch? For me that's the essence of Ed Sullivan and Lawrence Welk. We'd all be crammed in this little tiny room and everything we sat on would be covered in plastic.

You know, my Nonna watched Welk when I was little - but even then, I wasn't crazy about the music.

Made me a little queazy, in fact.

I couldn't deal with the Beach Boys either.

What in the name of Myron Floren has happened to this thread? I had an aunt that loved Lawrence Welk and my older brothers and sisters watched Ed Sullivan.

Just the usual.

Sullivan was OK - I really preferred watching Westerns and Horror movies to any of those "entertainment variety" shows.

Still do.

I liked Branded, and the Wild Wild West. And Tunderbirds, and Get Smart, and F - Troop, and McHales Navy - I still think Ernest Borgnine is the Shizzle, and I remember watching him in a heavily - edited - for TV version of The Wild Bunch - now THAT's entertainment.

And my Dad and I watched each of the "Magnificent Seven" movies a whole bunch of times - I got to stay up late for those.

>>>Did they have plastic covers on their couch?

My mother always said that was a sure sign of "White Trash".... as she made a buncha sandwiches with Wonder Bread and Velveeta cheese and served em up w/ Kool aid in jelly jar glasses from the Piggly Wiggly market! LMAO!
Seemed it was always my job to hold the coat hanger antenna just right so the adults could see a somewhat clear picture!
