"Star Spangled Blues" Video for 9/11

Postby ricochet » Sun Sep 07, 2008 1:18 pm

Many of you who've been around a while have heard this. I was just starting to learn the Star Spangled Banner when the September 11, 2001 attacks occurred, and over the next couple of years I evolved a commemorative version of the tune. In three parts, it's intended to tell a story. The first, rather conventional arrangement, represents America going about "business as usual." It's interrupted at the very end by two big "explosions." There follows a minor key arrangement intended to evoke the period of national shock and mourning that followed. It then morphs (with a brief quotation from Nazareth's "Hair of the Dog" riff) into an upbeat, happy version reflecting my belief that we'd bounce back from the experience better and stronger. It's tough to record and get a perfect cut. I decided to go with "not too bad" so I could get it up by the 9/11 anniversary!

Thank you, Carol!

I put a video of "Amazing Grace" up on my "OldSlidePicker" channel, too. It's an instrumental.
I still remember the beautiful "How Great Thou Art" you did for your mother.

I'm surprised you remember that Ric...it was almost 3 years ago. My mom's been gone 2 1/2 years & it still brings me to tears to hear that song.
Your Amazing Grace is beautiful. My favorite way to hear it is with bagpipes-I have scottish blood I think.

Carol :)

I'm sorry for your loss, Walter.

Last night I stayed awake through the wee hours when I should have been sleeping watching something on The History Channel called "102 minutes that changed the world." It was edited together out of mostly amateur videos, cell phone, etc. of the World Trade Center attacks as they went down, from the viewpoints of people on the street, emergency workers, even scenes from inside the buildings.

I finally listened to it, don't always have the facility. Ain't miming wonderful? In all seriousness, just beautiful, no other word. If you have the profound misfortune to drop dead tomorrow, you'll go knowing you got this one right.
