Beater rich environment (Goodwill)

Postby 1four5 » Fri Apr 28, 2006 10:55 pm

Every now and then I gotta put a plug in for my favorite source for junker guitars and all kinds of other music stuff.

http://www.shopgoodwill.com/default.asp

I've been following this site for over 2 years now, and set up numourous co-workers/students/Church youth/and friends with guitars from the musical instrument listings. It is currently one of the most beater rich environment listings I've ever seen there, over 5 pages with at least three 12 string guitars and I can't even count how many beater electric, acoustic and nylon stringers there, not to mention all the other junk.

Lots of interesting stuff there, not that it does me any good here in Japan.

On the other hand, Yahoo Japan runs an auction website modeled on E-Bay. It's a great source for 60s and 70s Yamahas, Takamines, Morrises, Yairis, and other Japanese goodies. Early Yamaha acoustics are listed there all the time; I recently picked up a pristine red label FG-110 for a great price. I'd recommend it, but the site is in Japanese only and the majority of sellers don't want to ship out of Japan. Good for me, though. :D

Just got to watch your shipping amounts some of the goodwill locations on shopgoodwill charge rediculous amounts for shipping making some of those beaters not such a great price. My advice check shipping before bidding. But I agree 100% great source for a beater or the occasional vintage piece. The vintage gear hounds seem to have found the place so anything "worth" anything is bringing what it should moneywise.
