I am an avid T.W. fan although some of his stuff is too out there for me Like his C.D. Real Gone. One of my favorite lines is The large print giveth and the small print taketh away from Step right up on small change. I better stop as this is not the place to be discussing T.W. He has had some top blues muscians accompany him through the years. C Musselwhite, j. Hammond etc... Have a good one.

I reckon a pretty solid introduction to the blues would be the three-disc Robert Johnson The Origins (Beg, Borrow, or Steal). Disc One has predecessors and peers, people like Son House, Skip James and Charley Patton. Disc two is all of Robert Johnson's tunes. Disc 3 is his tunes done by others including Peter Green, Muddy Waters, and Johnny Winter. But that would just be a starting point.

As a basic introduction, I'd say Robert Johnson, Albert/BB/Freddie King, Albert Collins, Muddy Waters, Howling Wolf, Buddy Guy.

After that:

Blind Willie McTell, Lonnie Johnson, Skip James, Blind Blake, Memphis Minnie, Big Bill Broonzy, Gatemouth Brown, Otis Rush, JB Lenoir, Koko Taylor, Sonny Boy Williamson I and II, Memphis Slim (+ Matt Murphy),...

And a bunch of white folks too:

Duke Robillard once said he got more from listening than from practicing as well. Reason being that you can get all the notes right, but unless you really listen you won't get the timing, swing or dynamics right.

I recently bought Bukka White - Fixin to Die and that's really growing on me, but the hiss and crackle on some tracks may put some off.

Sorry to hijack this thread, but regarding techniques on playing check out performances and even lessons on youtube; watching other players is the next best thing to them teaching you; possibly even better than that because you learn to do your own thing.
