Help BRB out: Think of stupid riddles & trivia

Postby rustyslide » Fri Nov 16, 2007 6:56 am

Zhyla and I are going to be designing and implementing a new feature to keep spam-bots from registering: riddles.

eg:
"What colour is an orange?"

I’m thinking topical trivia would be good as well, stuff that’s easily found via Google or Wikipedia.

If anyone has any question suggestions, put them here - we may delete the ones we end up using. They shouldn’t be formulaic (ie, no math, unless it’s a trick question: “I have one apple and Jane gives me three apples. How many legs do I have?”), or too esoteric.

Why not peruse the various trivia threads? There's a specific blues trivia thread on "talking blues" and a general thread in "way off topic"

I read them on occasion. I think that the questions are too hard - I do want people to be able to get them right without too much effort.

Even easy questions will stop a bot, until a bot-maker deems us worthy of a custom bot, which doesn't strike me as likely.

I know the blues questions are beyond my mental prowess. How about

"How many chords in a basic twelve bar blues?"

-or-

"Insert the missing letters: CHARLEY PAT_O_"

Good idea there. Stuff like "what word connects Lemon Jefferson and Willie Johnson?"

Name the river that runs through the Mississippi Delta.

Spell the most common or "Standard" guitar tuning. (Asking for open tuning spellings would make things tough for folks who REALLY want to find this forum...)

What musical instrument instrument is often referred to as a "Harp", even though it has no strings?

Yeah, I'm laughing at the axolotl, too!

I did warp that song into one about a little red-footed tortoise 3 months ago, though...
