Song For Sonny Liston

A place to post guitar tabs separately from other discussion so it doesn’t get lost in the messages. To make it easy to search we suggest starting a new thread for each song posted and include the song name in your title. We’ll be able to make a nice archive if we keep tab here and discussion on the other forums.

Song For Sonny Liston

Postby leftyguitarman » Fri Apr 13, 2007 1:11 am

This is my favorite song by my favorite artist, Mark Knopfler. A good kinda bluesy tune with just guitar, bass, and drums. I cant find accurate tabs anywhere for it. I would prefer to have the live version tabbed, and I can send you the song if you want to give it a shot at tabbing it. I know he uses a capo at the 4th fret as well.

Came up with this so far. I cant seem to find the other note that completes the main riff.

I figured out some more, but I'd love for someone to give their hand at trying to tab this song.

Lefty, I am going out on a limb with my take on tabs here. No disrespect intended. I have found that most tab is inaccurate and that one should not be locked into thinking that they are gospel. Unless you are going to learn full on theory, ( and even were you to go that way ) there is no better tool for figuring stuff out on your own than your ear. From the tab you have written on the Liston ditty, it appears pretty easy. Trust your ears as they won't lie to you. Don't get me wrong, tab can give you a headstart and a place to begin when figuring out things, but as your ear develops, you will find you need tab less and less. Cheers.
