Florence, Alabama, was indeed WC's hometown. Florence's was a venerable Chicago Club where Muddy held court for many years and players like Buddy Guy cut their teeth.

I believe the answer is Blind Willie Johnson's "Nobody's Fault But Mine."

When this young man first moved to Chicago and started playing in clubs, people called him Paul (not his name). Who is he and why did they call him that?

I'm guessing Charlie Musselwhite.
People mistook him for Paul Butterfield 'cos they were the only two white harp players on the scene.

Well the trivia thread is off to a flying start in 2007, so to keep the ball rolling here's another easy one:

What was Slim Harpo's previous stage name and why did he change it?

Harmonica Slim.
He later accompanied Lightnin' Slim, his brother-in-law and as I've read he was nicknamed "Slim Harpo" by producer Jay Miller.

This cats first musical influences were Blind Lemon Jefferson and Howlin Wolf but was taught guitar by his mom. Born in TN in 1915 this blues man played in Jukes and fish frys around the South until his late teens when he moved to Ark. and began working on farms. He put his music on hold until he had a chance meeting with another blues man that became his greatest influence. They traveled and played together for a couple years then went their separate ways around 1937. He played around the South till about 1941 when he wanted to see the world..... He never made it past Chi Town where he worked construction and continued to play in local bars.
At one point he got frustrated with the music biz and sold his equipment and went to construction full time until he was re discovered in the mid 60's and began recording and touring again until his death.
