While trying to avoid doing any work today I had a bit of an idea. I think it is something that has already been discussed here, but what does everybody think about making a CD compilation of ourselves purely for ourselves? I would love to hear the rest of you guys playing some blues and it would be interesting to hear all your different styles etc. I was thinking we could each record ourselves playing our own blues song or a favourite cover (using whatever recording means possible- doesn't have to be anything fancy but as good as you can get with the resources available to you. Or you could just send a song you have already recorded and don't mind being on the compilation) and then send them on to someone else (such as myself, I will have some free time in the holidays)who could then burn them all onto a CD. The possibilities are endless- it could be just you playing or you in your band, or you and another buddy from Big Road Blues. You could record a track and then e-mail it on to another BRB member to add their part to it- I would love to hear Houndog or Lummox jamming with Carlton F. or Bosco on harp, for example.
Don't worry if your playing is not that great, we're all varied in skill-level and my contribution isn't going to be too good
It would also be an excellent way to get musically acquanted with one another before the 2005 get-together.
So what do you think? It is a bit of an ambitious idea for my limited know-how but since I suggested it, I would be willing to do whatever I can. My internet server is not very good so it would be better for me if people could send their songs via snail-mail (I know this would be tedious and expenses involved, but it would be easier for me at least, unless anyone else has better resources with which to receive the songs). I could then burn up a compilation and post them on to anyone who is interested (there would be a small fee I should imagine, but only to cover the cost of the CD and postage, I don't wish to make any money out of this). Or I suppose I could post them up somewhere as MP3's for you to download and compile yourself (this is something I would need help with as my computer know-how is limited). If anyone else has a more convenient (but realistic!) idea to get this together though, please let me know. I might also need some help in cleaning up some of the songs using software, if tracks people have sent in were done on tape recorders etc. and have background hiss. I don't have enough 'puter knowledge to do that myself.
I really don't know how many people will be up for this, so it might run into a lot of songs- maybe a two or three disc anthology!
If anyone is interested in this idea and/or can help me get it all together then please reply to this thread. If we get good feedback then we can brainstorm how to get it going on.
Thanks for reading this,
