BRB CD news...

Postby stumblin » Tue Oct 14, 2003 6:24 am

The CD is now full.
I have to go through all the tunes and try to get them roughly equal in volume, but basically, it's done.
Phew and thanks to all our contributors.
There are one or two tunes still winging their way to us. These and some other "spare" tunes will make a good start on vol 2, there's probably about quarter of an hour's worth of music for vol 2 already.
So keep 'em coming, another instalment will appear in the not too distant future.

Since I came late to the party, could you fill me in a little? Will this CD be available for purchase here on BRB?

For the full and accurate details, we should probably wait for Mousey to speak out.
However, as far as I know, a "master" copy will be sent to a representative in each relevant continent. This person will then distribute the compilation primarily to the contributors, and I guess anyone who's interested. It's not for sale, purely for our private entertainment. Just so we all know what we all sound like etc.
Having said that, I doubt if the distributor(s) would object to being bunged a couple of knicker to defray expenses.
Any road, that's my understanding of the situation, anyone with more insight into it should chime in and let us all know.

What Stumblin said. The BRB CD will be available for free to all interested BRB members. We've just got to get the distribution going in some kind of human mailing chain (no jokes please!). The album artwork and notes for the CD will be available for you to access online and print off yourself courtesy of Mr Rustyslide.
One again my thanks to Stumblin for all his hard work- you can imagine the time it takes to sift through all these tracks, upload them onto a computer, compile them etc.

Why not just put the CD as an mp3 on a protected website, with each interested BRB member given the password? If any want to get a "hard" copy, then a much less complicated distribution chain can be implemented.

("Each INTERESTED BRB member" ... I slay me ...
As if there are those who wouldn't have interest in this?)

AJ, your idea is an interesting one, but I think it might prove impractical for some of us with dodgy dial-up connections, 56k or lower modems etc. Also I think we discussed it on the board a few months ago and agreed to use the postal method.
Anyway, it's always a really good start to the day when something you like turns up in the post, don't you think?

Yeah we've been through that idea before. In an ideal world it would be great but I think plain old-fashioned snail-mail will get the job done eventually.

Right then, here's the track list.
But first, a couple of things that you really should know.
On many of the submissions there has been quite a lot of hiss. I've used the hiss-cut function in Sound Forge to reduce this in most instances, but you can only take off so much before it starts to eat away at the sound quality of the actual music. I've also increased the volume of a lot of the tracks. Some of the mp3s were of a type that my software wouldn't convert to .wav format, so I've been unable to either make them louder or less hissy.
The most important thing though is that I just went out and got some 80minute CDRs (I know, I know, I should have thought of that sooner. In my defence, I am naturally blond you know, so dimwittedness and incompetence are my genetic heritage, and persecution may infringe my human rights.)This means that more of our members can now be represented on the album. Anyway, to produce a copy of this CD compilation, you will need to buy an 80 minute CDR.
Here's the track list. It might be helpful if some of you could fill in or confirm those bits of info marked with a question mark (author's name, spelling errors etc.).

There you go, for those of you who don't have it already there's my real name!

Wow, the whole list looks great and it's going to be great to hear you all play. The only problem is that I'm going to start hearing of of your posts mentally in your singing voices!

Well I guess that's that then.
I'll make a page on our website for the images and all that so you can download the cover etc. That will save Rusty some storage and bandwidth. We've got both of those commodities falling out of our wazoo, so all I need is for Rusty to email me the files, then I'll post directions to the page here.
It's been fun, although I sometimes wished more people would actually label their discs & tapes so I know which cover to replace them into ;)
Any road, like I said (at least I think I did), keep 'em coming, volume 2 shouldn't be too far away at the rate you've sent stuff in so far...

Is that the sequence the tunes are arranged in on the CD? It will be handy having mine first, as it will be easy to put the CD in, skip to the second song and let it play.

Who is in charge of getting them distributed in the states? I can't wait...

There are more of you in the States, so to keep things cheap and simple, why not form a chain. That way, we send one copy to one of you, you send a copy of that to someone else etc.
The first person to email their mailing address to Mousey should get one in the post shortly thereafter. I'd do it, but I'm going to be out of reach of the internet for a few days from tomorrow.
A similar system could cover Australia too, although I think there aren't so many Aussies on the board, so it should be simpler there.
McGiubert and PurpleHaze, we'll just post you each a copy. Please email your mailing addresses to Mousey, or to me if you don't mind waiting a few days.
Rusty, please email the cover etc. to me so it can be uploaded onto our server.

PS: Oh yes, the Good Ol' U of K, I nearly forgot!
Send your mailing addresses and we'll post you the disc.
