Seems like Doc already opened at $100. Somebody did, anyway.

I have a tendency to screw up procedures, but, I thought Bosco cancelled that first bid when he suggested we alter the "rules".-

I didn't intend to cancel the initial bid, merely suggested that the winner might get to choose the subject...

Evidently Bruneau didn't read that the idea was popular or decided to go with the first format. Either way, it would probably be a good idea to get the artist himself to clear this up.

Not my call.

My intuition says go on with the auction and maybe we can reach Brunea in the meantime before he has started the painting.

Well, while I like Bosco's idea, it might be a little like hiring somebody to play a gig of requests. Some would like it and do well, others would be very uncomfortable. Bruneau did, however, start the poll so he might be OK with requests.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON Feb-11-05 AT 03:09 PM (EST)]Hi Bosco
The Idea of bidding first without seeing the thing you're bidding on
is not bad, but I think if we try to get some money for BRB, I have to make the painting first.
Better still is first I make the painting and it's going on auction on BRB and then we use your idea for a second painting.

Boz, I think you are now high bidder at $125. I had the opening bid of $100.

Hey Doc,

I Think I've got to set things right.
First I didn't see the changes made by Bosco untill I started to count the votes for the portrait i'm going to paint.
I understand now there are 2 different things going on here!
So this is what I'm going to do. I'll make two (2)paintings for BRB.
The first is going to be a portrait of Son House and it's going on auction on BRB (PappyJ or me is going to make a post where the painting can be seen) and then everybody can start bidding.
For the second painting, everybody can start bidding before the painting is made and the winner choose the subjet for the painting, just as Bosco
suggested in his earlier post.

As I see it; there are still no bids for the first painting.
And for the second painting the bid is now up to $100.
Everybody agree!

I'd suggest that if it's really going to be a benefit for BRB support, the auction ought to be opened up to a lot bigger audience than BRB's active members. Needs "spamming" all over blues and music-related boards. Might ought to be on eBay or something, with suitable keywords to catch a lot of lookers.

Geeeeez Rico,
Originally Bruneau wanted to help raise some money for the "Road".
I guess "Pappy" would/could have some ideas about raise'n funds for the site.
I don't disagree about any "Mo Betta" ideas about raise'n money an stuff. Let's hear em on a different thread.
If were gonna "prime the pump" with this auction let's get on with it.
We could examine all the details of a fund raiser for as long as it takes to kill the idea or we could just make a bid and move on to the next idea.
Hey, someone's gonna get a cool piece of art an Pappy's gonna get some money to keep the site goin.

My point is, I think there's more money off this site than on it. Notice I haven't even bid. Not planning to. I'm a bit tapped out.

Hi Boz,

I think we have to set a time limit to the bidding for the second painting. I suggest 3 weeks from now. At the end of the first week of march.

I hope I can finnish the painting of Son House tonight (i worked on it this morning and it's already a great portrait) so I can go to the post tomorrow and mail it to PappyJ. It's going to have over a week before he get it I guess and start the auction will take also a day or two.
Maybe Ricochet has a point in broadening the auction outside the forum,I don't know ?
