Email notification?

Postby sweetness » Fri Feb 24, 2006 12:00 am

I noticed in DCForum's docs that they have an email notification feature if someone replies to something you posted. Other boards have that feature, and I would love to see it here. I see that we can be notified if we receive a private email, but this is a little different. And really useful!

What do you think, Pappy?

A damn good idea - I'm forever sticking something in a thread, then forgetting which one it was (usually because I didn't take much notice in the first place) and can't be bothered visiting all the likely candidates to find it again.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON Feb-24-06 AT 10:26 AM (EST)]OK, I have turned it on. When you reply to a topic there is a check box you can check if you want to get an email notification when there is a reply. I'm testing it for myself on this reply. There is also a link at the top of the topic you can click to subscribe. You can manage your subscriptions to a topic from your user menu when you want to unsubscribe.

I've been refusing to ask about'em - on the grounds that then, people might assume I already know.

Which I don't.

So c'mon. Give. Waddadeymean?

Ok...I got 2 e-mails. One when Lummo posted, and one when Spud posted.

This brings up a good question...

If I had checked that box on one of the long threads, say the PETA thread or the Trivia thread, would I wind up with dozens (or more) of e-mails?

A cool feature possibility for the coders of this forum software would be "Timed Subscriptions" - Subscribe to a thread for "2 days", "a week", "a month", then it auto unsubscribes. That would be slick.

Me too, but I figured the most stupid questions are the ones you don't ask, and if you never ask you never find out.
Still no nearer to the long awaited revelation though...

An interesting question, the resolution of which may, or may not, lie in re. the parallel phenomenon of other, liberal, scatterings of pseudo-acronyms, such as "LOL", "IMO", "imho", "wtbhitaa", “@TEOTD”, “2NITE”, “411”, “ADAD”, “LOLA”, “LOOL”, “IYO”, “IYSS”...

Few, if any, of these mean anything to me; neither do they spark any desire to acquire such knowledge, any more than do the equally silly and pointless (and equally dishonest) little yellow faces that many seem attracted to...

Now what was that all about? I dunno. Still, never mind, eh, it’s a glorious spring day here, and I wish you could all share it.

Best regards,

By the way, thanks for the well wishes, BF. It's shaping up to be a beautiful day here also. :)
