BRB Trivia- April 2006

Postby bosco » Sun Apr 02, 2006 11:50 am

Thanks to everyone who participated in the March thread, it was very successful at 12 pages of posts. Up first is Nizer with a stumper that has gone unanswered for 5 days-

Match the right King, - Albert, B.B. or Freddie - with each quote:

1."I couldn't make the runs and that's what really got me into the bending note sound. I listened to the blues by Howlin' Wolf, Lonnie Johnson, and all of those guys, but T Bone Walker really gave me an idea of what I wanted to do."

2. "Many guitarists are so technical that everything is so right there. That's good, it shows that you practice. But when a guy lives what he is doing, you can feel it. I can't tell you what I'm listening for, but when I hear it, I know it. Do I make sense?"

3."The other guitarists would be shaking when Earl Hooker and I walked into a club. They'd say, "Here they come again, man. Watch all your scotch. Watch your women."

Oops! Forgot I'd done that.

This guitarist-singer was born in Louisiana, stage-named for a place in Tennessee, died in Tennessee, is buried in Mississippi, and was an important pioneer of Chicago blues.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON Apr-04-06 AT 04:59 PM (EST)]Ok. Born in Memphis. Discovered by Willie Dixon. Chicago blues. Colour of Chocolate, loved it and has a stage name based on it. Still alive as far as I know.

Short and sharp one, this one.

Years ago, I wondered - where did the Delta Blues guys buy their strings?

I figured that the man with the music store had to be an interesting part of the puzzle.

Well, from 1925, at 225 North Farrish street in Jackson, Mississippi, there was a record, music, and furniture shop - the owner was also a talent scout for Victor, Columbia, Brunswick, Okeh and others. He worked to get some of the main names in early Blues released. And his name?
