Johnnie Johnson died - sad news !

Postby snakehips » Fri Apr 15, 2005 8:41 pm

Unless already posted elsewhere, I heard on the radio yesterday that pino player, Johnnie Johnson has died, aged 80.

He is made most famous by being the piano player in many of Chuck Berry's classic rock and roll hits (and presumably, egged on by Chuck in Johhnie B. Goode, when he sings "Go, Johnnie Go, Go...."

A major loss to the blues and rock'n'roll world

Yeah, the problem is that God's got this girlfriend who fancies herself as a bit of a singer.

I've got to say that when I heard the news about Johnnie it kind of knocked me about for the rest of the day. Most of the world doesn't seem to realise that talent that it lost.

National Public Radio did a fairly long story about him this morning. It included an interview with Keith Richards who said Chuck Berry had the charisma and stood in front, but he was copying the piano players licks.

Yes, Johnnie's passing hit me hard too. He was the one piano hero of mine that I could have met but didn't. I agree the world does not know the magnitude of talent and creativity that Johnnie had and we lost another great one. Ray Charles and Johnnie Johnson passing within the past year. The world lost two of the greatest. RIP.
