Open Tuning an Epi Emperor Swingster

Postby jawbone60 » Fri Sep 21, 2012 1:20 am

Jolene is working up a set with me for a competition and wants a bigger sound. The Regal Parlor guitar is good through either a Danelectro Nifty Fifty or a Silvertone 1482, but she was wondering if the big body jazz box- with overdriven pickups- would sound even better. the Regal has a stick-on piezo pickup where the Swingster has those killer overdrive pickups.

Opinions anyone?

I sometimes use a Dearmond full hollow with some kind of Dearmontron pickup. It's open tuned for slide. Sounds just "ok" over driven with a full band and sounds better clean for solo coffee house stuff. Hope this helps.

in fact, she open tuned it and we tried it in 2 different amps, with the overdrive switches both on and off. she didn't like it much and she's back to the regal parlor with a piezo pickup for slide.
thanks mud!
