12 string Guitar Porno-graphi-licious

Dell'Arte Leadbelly Custom made for NAAM '04. June '03 build. Sitka, mahogany, ebony. Only one with a sunburst. Growls with 12-52, will get 13-56 or 13-58 on it soon. Oddly, it came with light gauge 10's on it. The previous owner had some tendonitis issues, so had a new nut cut for the lights. I put the mediums on, they were available, and it was a big improvement, but needs more. It's living in open Bb (open D) presently, move that down to A with the bigger gauge.

This for size ref, terrible photo, sorry. Standing next to a National M-1 12 string. It's a big guitar, but as comfortable as a warm blanket on a winter's eve.

Sweet. Nice burst finish a bonus. How's the balance on it? Any neck dive?

It plays like a dream. It's pretty big, 16" lower bout, 4-1/2" deep, 26.5" scale, all the way up the neck it's sweeter than sugar, handles a slide well even with these skinny strings. What's neck dive?

Heck, and I'm primarily a soprano uke player.... love this thing.

Neck dive refers to balance issues with bulkier heavier necks in ratio to the body where in when letting go of the neck it wants to dive to the floor. Many solid body electrics have that issue and I've seen it in a few acoustics. Had an Epi V that was a nice guitar but had horrible neck dive. Sold it.

Then that's a no sir! As big as it is, it's pretty light, and balanced.

It seems that quite a cottage industry has grown up around making booteek versions of Schmidts. It shows the prominent place the Schmidts hold in creating the mystique of the ladder braced, blues guitar.

Congrats on the new additon to the family. A very, very sweet looking guitar. I have never even heard of one of those in a burst. Always nice to not only own a great guitar but also a rare bird. A friend of mine owns one (not as burst)and just loves it. I gather the guitar is a great example of what happens when you combine old and new school design and building.

Play the heck out of it - I am envious.

It's a small cottage ;), most are still less expensive than the real thing, those Oscar S of the '20s.

Mine was.

Great looking guitar. The best sounding guitar I ever heard was a Del Arte Baritone 12 string being played by Nathan James. If you guys don't know Nathan James, you should look him up. He plays all styles of blues but is really amazing at the old country style stuff.

I have to say that the guitar is simply astounding and looks marvelous. I can say from the photo that it is pretty big and heavy given its size. I am really longing to hear how it sounds since you have mentioned how it manages a slide despite the strings being thin.

So I was searching "Dell'Arte Leadbelly" to find out how I should price this thing, and came across a number of threads, this one from me that has been left unattended with no vid. Here's a link to a song I did with slide on the Leadbelly.
