Help me find a easy/simple blues song for me and my kid

Postby s1120 » Mon Oct 18, 2010 2:14 pm

OK.. so my little girl is having a a parent/child talent show coming up in a few months. She loves singing, and messing around on her guitar. [shes 8 BTW] Me? Well im have been messing around with guitar for about 6 years now, but Im a Jr player at BEST! learned bits of songs, but none all the way through. So that being said.... we kinda worked up a cool little skit of the two of us playing a song on a street corner... But we need a song...

Im looking for a cool, simple old blues song, that she can sing, and maybe do a little guitar riff or two on, and that will be easy enough for a beganing player like me to learn in about a month.

Any song ideas, or ways to play it, or anything to help would be cool!!!

Thanks for any help!!

The riff - a variation on Son House's Death letter lick, is one I teach beginning guitarists too. Should be a nice fit.

I think I found one!!!!!!!

Sounds pretty easy, and my daughter would love learning to sing it!!!!

Can someone help a bad guitar player muddle through it?

That version of Oreo Cookie blues is a 12 bar blues variant in E:

Code: Select all
|E...|E...|E...|E...|
|A...|A...|E.B.|EAE.|
|B...|C.B.|E...|E...|

In general, play dominant 7 chords instead of major chords (E7, A7, B7, C7).
First bars of E seem to alternate between E5/E6/E5/E6 shuffle, with a minor third bend on the sixth string at the end of each bar.
The two bars of A are a common A5/A6/A7/A6 powerchord shuffle.
In the "E.B" bar, the E is really a two beat walk up to the B7. E G (bend) A A# B B7.
In the EAE bar, the A is major chord.
Last two bars are the turnaround.
