SH-1 59' and Pearly Gates

Postby rossfloss » Mon Jun 07, 2010 4:58 pm

So I'm thinking about replacing the 490 and 498 in my Gibson LP Studio with a Seymour Duncan SH-1 59' in the neck and a Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates in the bridge. I'm thinking this will give me a near perfect blues set up.

I'm just seeing if there is anything I should know or keep in mind that may be under the radar about these two humbuckers.

Also, how does the inbetween position sound?

I've never used either of those pickups, however SD pickups seem to be very highly regarded elsewhere on the internet. A lot of people on various Les Paul forums favor the Seymour Duncan JB/Jazz combo for blues and rock but I'm not sure I've ever heard anyone complain about any of the SD 'buckers.

Yeah I've heard a lot of good things about that Jazz/JB combo. I'm really torn between that and the 59'/Pearly Gates combo.

JB looks to be too hot for my tastes, but I've not played it. The 59/PG set us what I'd get if the Seth Lovers were off the table.

I just watched some youtube videos demonstrating the Seymour Duncan Seth Lover pickups and I am pretty wowed by them. I might actually go with them.
