CAS - "you liberated devil you!!"

Not really... Just that having spent my life, so far, in awe and admiration of women as the superior gender, I figured any supreme being must follow a similar, if not related, design...

Alternatively, as many apparent manifestations of the afore-mentioned suggest a sick joker, if not a dyed-in-the-wool psychopath, then maleness is an unavoidable possibility.

Meanwhile... Has anyone noticed that this resurrected thread started just about a year ago?

Yes, and it lets you fret a string ahead of the slide, which is often handy. I couldn't do much with my pinky, though, until I'd used it for the slide for about a year, which greatly increased its strength and dexterity.

Yah, six fingers on the slide'n hand.
That opens all kinds of possibilities for chording/slide tech, eh?

Pinky or Ring

Postby samblackwell » Thu Sep 23, 2004 8:11 pm

I can see the point everyone says about using it on the pinky so you can make chords if you're in standard tuning (which I never am) but if you're tuned open:

A. You only need 2 fingers to make most chords.

B. The chords you do need 3 fingers for would be impossible to make if the slide was on your pinky since the pinky is the only finger that's gonna span to frets when you're barring with the first finger.

I think it depends on your style and usual tuning -
i find that for myself using the pinky is the best option. it took some practice to get the strength, but now it's second nature. i use the first 3 fingers to fret chords, as i play a combination of fingerstyle and slide. Playing minor chords, suspended etc becomes easier in this way, and by using 3 fingers you can get more well rounded chord voicings (by playing more than one of the same note).
Each to his ( or her) own !

I use the slide on my pinky and use three fingers for chording all the time.

For what it's worth:
I used to always use the slide on my third finger until I got my tricone. The 12-fret neck made me start using the little finger for the slide. I think my playing has improved since then. I don't think that any improvement has anything to do with which three fingers are free, just that I've been practising and gigging a whole lot more.

I'm probably being an ignoramous here, but I can hardly hear these subtle sus and minor chords when people are playing Delta anyway.
