do any of u guys use this tuning.
i was playing in open d tuning but kept hitting the open 3rd string tuned to f sharp which sounded awful,so tuned it to d instead.the 2 open d strings together sound great.
i figure i'm gonna stick with daddad

That's open D5. A friend of mine got hooked onto that for a long time - there are some pretty cool sounds lurking in it. I think Ben Harper uses that one a lot as well. One question though, in straight D why did the F# sound awful?

Possibly an intonation issue. I've had that problem before, if the intonation on the G string is even a little bit off, it shows up a lot more when you tune down that half step. *shrug*

All my guitars are tuned to open D. I will try that tuning you suggest but, I can't imagine not having the F# I use a few easy licks that use that string tuned to F#.

Yeah, I'd really miss my third.

Somebody, Boz, I think, was using a 4-string version of your DADDAD on a CBG recently.

Close, I was study'n on G D G D, which is I'm told an Irish tenor banjo tuning. I later "discovered" that by dropping the "first" D string down to B I'm back in Open G (G D G B) I love it.
