I posted this on the Blues Piano conference before I remembered that nobody here reads that. Any remedies for fingers that are cracked to the bleeding point. I used a band aid, and it didn't help my keyboard playing. Any aerosols that work- I'm talkin' just to stop the bleedin' so you can play.

Crazy Glue was originally developed for closing wounds in emergeny situations.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON Jan-27-04 AT 05:53 PM (EST)]I presume "Crazy Glue" is a product which the rest of the world refer to by a different name.
Does anyone here have any idea what that different name might be in the good ol' U of K (home of the craven land of the fees)?

It's Super Glue. Same thing. Actually...the signature ingrediant is "Cyanoacrylate." Anything with that in it should do the trick.

I assume you are talking about the calluses that have cracked, unless "cracked" means raw, or chaffed...

If the former, I suggest that you use a decent hand cream - the skin's too dry. And ease off on the playing a little.

If the latter, ease off on the playing a little to let them harden.

We nearly lost Tone, today - that would be OK, but a decent bit of legislation would've been lost too.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON Jan-27-04 AT 07:39 PM (EST)]Boz- you've prob'ly GOT bonkers putty in your guitar case. It's right next to your bottle opener & God knows what else. And Bf- no, it ain't callouses- I went ice fishin' all day, and the cold and water and fish slime ( maybe I got into sumpin' there),etc., resulted in gettin' my fingers all split. I been usin' moisturizers, but the weather up here is not conducive to healin' either. So, I been gettin' splittin' goin' on in all the seams. Ain't a problem on harp, but it bloodied up my keyboard some, and I gotta play more keyboard on Saturday nite, so I wuz' lookin' for a fix. Looks like super glue so far.

<"ease off on the playing a little ">

The words appear to be English but...I can't make out the sense of them.

I'm a cyclist and there is this stuff they call "Instant Skin". It comes in a spray can. They use for when people go down and go sliding across the pavement. I've never had to use it, so I don't know if it's sticky or anything, but it will stop the bleeding.

To keep your skin from cracking in the first place, there is this stuff called Utter Butter. It's what they use to put on cow ##### after milking them. (huh-huh...Beavis, he said "#####") I've use it and it does a good job. I won't tell you were I used it.

Well, I'll be. I guess I can't say ##### on this board. OK then, they put this stuff on a cow's thingy after milking.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON Jan-27-04 AT 10:45 PM (EST)]Also a product called "Bag Balm" which is the same thing. Great stuff for keeping your cuticles nice & soft. You can get it in a little green tin for about $5.00.

And sniffles.
E40 hand cream is good if you work outdoors in the cold.
I used to get this stuff from the Body Shop called "Elbow Grease", it was made of hemp and superb for cracked fingers. The tin came in useful too.

Hey, jeffl! If you use Superglue on your fingertips, let 'em dry for a while before you put 'em on the keys.
