Great new gig!

I've been asked to join a Baltimore based band that is getting lots of exposure and might be hitting the road next year. The band has a horn section, and they want me to learn the horn parts and play with them. I know that they'll want me to do some lead harp too since I've seen them with a harp player.

My first gig with them will be at the Baltimore Blues Society's contest finals on Thanksgiving weekend.

This couldn't have come at a better time. I'm temping now (my current job is one I'm working from home and loving), and I have time to travel.

Hopefully this will go well. I'll let everyone here know what happens.

Hey,that's great,DC! Have you played with any of these guys before...? One of the things I've noticed (it's one of those "duh" things) is that the higher the level of musicianship of the guys you're joining, the easier it is to step in; the only thing remaining is havin' that first tune hit where everybody looks at each other when it's over, and has that "awright!" look on their faces...

jeffl, no I haven't played with them before. I've seen them once and one of their horn players (the one who asked me to join the band) has heard me play a couple of times. He's going to send me a tape and I'm going to rehearse with them some time next week.

Thanks for all of the encouragement!

I also picked up a great paying New Year's gig with my somewhat defunct acoustic band.

Speaking of holiday gigs, our keyboarder reminded us last nite that this is the time of year when people come up to you at gigs and ask if you can do a holiday party. We all agreed that if anybody asked us,our fee would be roughly 5 times what we normally get. The market goes up over the holidays, and a thoughtless slip of the tongue can cost your band thousands. Good luck learnin' the tunes,DC; I'm still goin' through that with this outfit, and it's definitely a challenge to keep it fun when you're scramblin' so much to handle the tunes. The talk last nite is that we may keep this band together in its current lineup, since the frontman hasn't found a new job yet.

We won the Baltimore Blues Society contest.

Sounds like you've hooked up with a great oufit that has original tunes. Enjoy it, great bands are hard to come by and best of luck!
