Goin down to the roadhouse

Postby oleman » Thu Mar 30, 2006 5:39 am

Just got a weekend gig at one of the most funky roadhouses on old RT.66, here in the land of enchantment. I'll be a sideman on upright bass for a semi famous local C&W singer/songwriter/guitarplayer. It's not the Blues but still flattering to stand on the same stage that Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Junior Brown, etc performed on. This old place has a rich history but has faded of late. Still I'm Stoked.

Good shootin',Oleman! I hope you got a good band to play with! I love playin' with stand-up acoustic bassists, and I've been fortunate enough to jam with a pretty good one for the last dozen years or so. Good luck with the whole thing.

Alright, Oleman. Sounds like fun. I love a lot of country myself. How fun! Let us know how it went. OK?

Thanks all!!
The gig went well with a large crowd of bikers, loggers and lawyers and mountian hippys.
Cut a live CD, got invited back for the outdoor stage this spring.
It's not the Blues, but it aint bad. I'm feeling a little more comfortable with C&W and I need the money.

Congrats man! I've only seen one stand up bass in real life, and thought it was incredable (even if it was jazz). If you would have told me a year ago I'd be playing country I'd a said no way, now it's about 80% of what we're doing, and I'm really liking it. When I get back to blues, it's giving me different approaches now. Some of that stuff is pretty blue too!

Proving once again that blues is the foundation for ALL contemporary music.
