1arm, how's your guitar career going? You haven't told us anything for a while.

I thought I'd be famous by now. Oh well I guess I better keep practicing.
I modify my pick holder every time I put it on. My right arm ends at the elbow so the first version was an extension almost like a forearm. Now I'm down to just an inch or so off the end of my arm and that points straight down. If you were holding your arm out in front of you.
That has really improved my strumming, I can strum both directions now without looking and hit the strings I was aiming for.
I have to play lapstyle, the angles don't work out for playing upright.
Go ahead all of you. Hold your guitar normally and try to strum with your elbow.
Don't do that anymore it looks funny.
I can do a fairly good 12 bar with the Stevens bar and get a pretty good speed out of it. Not ready for prime time though. I need to force myself to work on the cords now.
I'll keep working on it, you keep watching the telly for my big premiere.

:D :D :D :D :D :!:

What tuning are you using? I use open E mostly, and held "standard" but the new acoustic I have in A, and I tend to use that lap style (don't know why, it works just as well the other way).

The reso is in open G. The electric and acoustic are standard.
I should play with some different tunings just for fun.

Yep. I've discovered my Gibson jumbo sounds terrific in Open E with light strings. Very different from the reso. And I love to play electric slide in Open E.

Thats awesome that you are playing! If I could reccomend a tuning, open C#.Tune to open D and tune down a half step. Sounds amazing on a reso.

Nice pics, onefer! Your hair's gettin' kinda long though ain't it...? Hey,btw, you might kinda like these kids' act...I sold a van to their parents. They are 2 sets of brothers who inherited their musical genes well. They do some great 4 part mountain gospel tunes as well. They're gettin' up to $1000/gig. BTW,they got a rock band too, but I don't even know if they've got time for it anymore.

Made me think of Charlie Daniels' line about Elvin Bishop:

Elvin Bishop sittin' on a bale of hay,
He ain't good lookin', but he sure can play!

 :P

Interesting you should say that about the hey...they actually had about 50 bails of hey out in the streed that people were using to sit on all day for the various acts 8)

Oh yeah...about the hair...I got my last haircut (ever) about a month ago...last Monday, after 21 years, 1 month and 12 days in uniform...I RETIRED!!! E7 retirement is pretty good...for now, i'm not planning on working...but we'll see! There's a lot of house projects I want to get done...and of course a lot of playing!

Thank Rico! Dispite what you hear on the news, the airforce is actually reducing it's size and going to more and more contract work, they offered me a retirement package I couldn't refuse! They showed me the paperwork and told me I had 14 days to make my decision...I told them no I didn't because it was signed in about 4 seconds. :D

...and hey 1arm, if you come all the way to Kansas to heckle us...your going to have to join us! 8)
