Live music venues, mostly gone?

Last week listening to my barber George, telling me about what a wild town New Buffalo Michigan was back in the 1970's. Not to go into too much detail about it all, but it made this clear to me. There were live music venues all over this region back then, with 3-5 in my little town alone! Now there is just one, and they only have acoustic duo's–sometimes.
Seems like LIVE LOUD MUSIC's fading away with the baby boom.
Am I right?

Still a lot of clubs around my area but it seems you realy have to wait till the summer time with the festavels and fairs to get live music.

You are right. Everything is stinking Kereokie and DJs now adays. And one person, with every song known to man downloaded from the internet, and a stupid Boom box... can under cut live music. What bar owner is going to pay a 4 piece band $500, with a limited setlist... when they can hire a DJ for $150 that can play anything the teenyboppers and yuppies want to hear or sing along to? :( :( :(

I have somewhere around 18 gigs booked (so far) between now and September. I'm gigging every weekend in June (sometimes with two or more gigs in a weekend.) So, no.

We have 2 casinos, I never go there, but do they have Blues or Rock bands in there? :?:

I think it might be my area. This is the rural rust belt, no small factory jobs anymore, so people move away to where they find jobs. Everybody would have to come to the same joint at the same time to support the bar. We ain't got no university full of young kids spendin' daddy's money and lookin' to PARTY!!!! :D :D :D
This is a resort area in the summer, but middle aged people do little to support live music clubs, our bedtime's at 11:00 PM. ZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzz…

Does Steve Ball still play a lot around New Buffalo? He's like a human jukebox. Knows like every song ever.

I don't know him, but thanks, I'll ask some olden timers. He might be someone I'd like to know.

Yeah, here where i live in Indiana, its gotten progressively harder to find venues.

i used to play n a band as the vocalist, and over the 2 years we played, venues dropped off.
either due to fighting or money or whatever other reasons...
its bull! and its usually the ppl that arent performing, ruinning it for the musicians.

even in chill music environments, it seems sum ppls attitudes ruin it for the whole.
blues and rock are good music to party to, and have a good time.
but in an instant sum1 n the crowd can get upset by sumthing, and sumthing go wrong.
thus tanking the venue...

luckily a bar/resturaunt around here let the one confrontation slide
and there hasn't been another fight/scene yet! hopefully ppl are growing up around here!

I listen to a Saturday and Sunday afternoon Blues show on WVPE out of South Bend, and they're always plugging the Midway Tavern and Dance hall. You might track that down as a venue for your band.
Here's the link to the radio show: http://www.wvpe.org/index.php#/blues_revue.php
