just wonderin'

I saw this at Music 123:

Now, I don't care for "relic"ed equipment, but I know some folks do. I'm really not tryin' to start that discussion. What I'm wonderin' is...just how in the heck can a "heavy relic" instrument be anyhting but a blem? I mean...scratch and dent?...pretty much covered by "heavy relic" doncha think?

Well i wouldn't necessarily be a blem if it were certifiably certified to have like Sting's teeth marks on it, right?

Right...and it wouldn't necessarily be a blem if it was whipped with a bicycle chain to "simulate" Springsteen's belt buckle rash...or it would (in my eyes) have to be "blemished" in order to be "relic"ed.

Maybe a "blem" on a "heavy relic" guitar would be one that is too pristine?

 Yeah, like a large area looking brand new.

I think the relicking is sort of a shammy deal, Like somebody getting an ink stain on his fave shirt so they go and tie-die the whole shirt, and cruise around showboating -- now the shirt's got so much flavor it almost hurts. Its so cool it makes a new rule.***
I suspect the deliberate dents and scratches are a cover up for one or two accidental ones, don't you think so?

*** I'm tryin to sound hip like TexasBlues but it's not working is it.
