Wooo-Hooo!!! Check this baby out !!!

Postby grady » Tue Jan 27, 2009 2:57 am

I set up a guy's Computer for Home Recording in exchange for this,
A Vintage Fender Princeton with the Blackface circuitry.
Not sure of the year yet but, I pulled the Chassis and it does indeed have the BlackFace circuity.
It's completely stock except for the Speaker and a missing knob.
He did bring me the original speaker in a box.
It sounds Great !!!!
No buzzes, no humming,,, it's cherry as all get-out.

Great score, grady! Maybe I should start setting up computers on the side and go fishing!

You should go back and network his entire home; see what he pays for that...
Heck of a grab on that amp
Between that and the VOS Les Paul a couple weeks ago, I don't expect to see you posting in these parts for awhile.
Do remember to come up for air and a meal every now and then though - maybe check on the family and world events....?

Congrats Dude

Thanks guys.
It sounds thick & creamy with plenty of Mids. Not the "scooped" tone of some of the Silverface amps I've had. The circuitry is AA964 which means "First Revision (AA) September (9) 1964 (64)
I'm thinking this amp is either a 1967 or early 1968 model.

I've had some nice amps in my time but, I think this may be the best sounding one I've had.
Definitely a keeper.

The chrome trim-strip around the speaker grill is the give-away - it's a 1968..

Honestly - 1968 was one of Fender's best years for "black panel" amps. It was the first year of the silver panel amps, but by and large Fender had really gotten around to killing their tone yet. I used to have a 1968 Super Reverb that absolutely screamed. One of the dumbest things I've ever done was parting with that amp...

Grady I'm jealous...

Thanks for helping me ID the amp.
Everything I've seen this evening points to 1968.

I've had a couple amps that I could kick myself in the ass for selling them.
I'm not parting with this one for love or money.

Badass tube tone baby! Absolutely nothing like it. And the price was right too! Your new LP Special should light the drapes on fire with the Princeton. Clips please!

Cheers, TB.
