Strap locks?

Postby Derekslide » Thu Oct 30, 2008 10:02 pm

Can I take the strap locks off my SG with out any harm?

I'm asking about the neck strap lock that's by the neck it self.

I don't want to accidentally loosen the neck in some way and harm it's playing ?

That is set-in which means, it's glued in.
So, no harm in taking the strap locks off however, I'm a big fan of strap locks and IMO, I think you should use them.
You'd be suprised at how fragile the headstock joint on that SG is.
That thing hits the floor one time and it's done for.

Mind if I ask why you want to remove them ??

I have straplocks installed on 2 of my guitars, but am thinking of removing the buttons and putting back the old ones, so I can use the same strap with ALL my guitars

to keep the guitar from "escaping", I recommend this easy, cheap solution

you put the strap on first, then this little piece, turn the outer part and 'bingo', strap locked... cost about €1.5 each...

Jaybee, those things are pretty cool, however, based on my experience they wear out pretty quick. I've had a couple crack on me and I even had one (on my buddy's strap) that we had to break to get off of my guitar.

You can't beat these Schaller Strap Locks.

Sure, you can try to build a better mousetrap but, nothing is ever going to top the industry standard.

I use those on my V's. I buy them by the dozen as they are cheap. I change them out once a month automatically.

Cheers, TB.

those are the ones I have on my Strat and Tele, but since I've been "accumulating" guitars lately, I always have to make sure I have 2 straps: one with and without the Schaller locks ==> half the time I only have one, more often than not the wrong one for the guitar I carry...
