Flat Wound Strings and Humbuckers

Postby Bant's Bluz » Fri Oct 24, 2008 2:48 pm

Many years ago, I had a Gibson SG and put flat wounds on it with pleasing results. Year pass, as did the SG and I now have a Gibson LP and I'm seeking opinions as to the appropriateness of using flat wounds on it.

I have a Les Paul double cut Studio and use flat wounds on the low 3 strings. I use a plain G because the flatwound G does not bend well and breaks easily'

Flat wounds sound good and last a long time if you keep them clean.

I think they sound great with humbuckers, and the flatwound G on my thinline hasn't popped yet.

I have flatwound strings on my Tacoma archtop and Epiphone wildkat. I love flatwound strings. They are not as bright sounding and have a fuller warmer tone. I even put a set of flatwound 10's on my Epiphone jumbo acoustic. I hate bright sounding strings these sound GREAT on the acoustic. I think they would sound great give em a shot...Delta

Going for flats? get Thomastik Infeld flats. Pricey, but well worth it.
