The best Strat pickup ever !!

Postby grady » Tue Aug 26, 2008 1:56 am

I just installed a Dimarzio SDS-1 in the bridge position of the 1996 Fender USA Stratocaster I bought a couple weeks ago.
It has to be the best Strat Bridge Pickup ever.
It's very P-90-ish. Takes away all of that weak Bridge pickup tone normally associated with the Strat and replaces it with a big chunka-chunka burning love.

Sure, the guitar still sounds like a Strat, only much MUCH better.

While I was at it, I made a new Bone nut to replace the stock one and turned this guitar into a Blues/Rock MONSTER !!!

Anyone who is unhappy with their Strat's Bridge pickup should try a Dimarzio SDS-1.
They're incredible.

I took your advice you gave me long ago, and now I have one of those Hot Rails in the bridge. Damn that pickup wails. I've not played a guitar with an SDS-1, but if it's anything like a P90, it's ok in my book. I wanna hear some sound clips of it.

While my LP is my favorite guitar, I do like my Strats because they are so damn easy to mess with and change.

I'm not much of a bucker guy. My favorites are Clapton issue lace sensor or Fender noiseless and for pure chimey sound the pickups in 80's jap Squiers

I just get me one of these:

$27 shipped with a decent humbucker. Get them before they are gone. I've ordered two, one for my Dad's Kramer. These kick ass. I only need one pickup anyway.

The Dimarzio SDS-1 is a Single-coil all the way.
It's a VERY large Single-coil but, a Single-coil just the same.
I didn't want to put a Humbucker in this new Strat.

The Hot Rails and Cool Rails are still my favorite single-coil size Humbuckers.

So far, I've been VERY impressed with the guitarfetish pickups...for the price, they're exceptional. I currently have one of their "Mean 90" pickups in my dobro, and another in the bridge position of my strat. Neck position on the strat is one of their "Fat Pat" humbuckers, with a coil tap. I also picked up one of their blem xv550's, and love it. The hot pickups they ship with sound good, but it took me a while to make friends with the higher output. All in all, they're a bargain.
