[updated:LAST EDITED ON Dec-11-05 AT 04:47 PM (EST)]Anyone ever use one? There are a few models (1484, 1485) that I've seen on eBay. Some are tube and some are SS...I think I'd go for the tube. I've been thinking of getting one if I can find one for a good price. I saw a guy over the summer blowin' his harp through one and it was one of the best harp tones I've heard.

Never played through a twin 12 but used to have a model 1482. Good for harp & guitar but not GREAT. Kinda dark tone - tone knob should have gone dark, darker, darkest. Silvertones are solid & good values compared to other vintage stuff though. Good luck in your search for tone. Roy BB

With a little more research, I've discovered the 1484 is the Twin Twelve (two 12s in the speaker cab), and the 1485 had 6 10s in the speaker cab. I'm not sure if the amps are different, though.

The 1485 sounds like it would be heavy to haul around.

Yeah, it would have a little heft...but I guess most of the 6x10 cabs have fallen apart over time...but I'd love to play through one.

never owned one but both of the twin 12's I've played I absolutely loved! If one ever comes along at the right price it will definitely be mine :D

I used to have a Silvertone Twin Twelve (back in the 1980s, when no one wanted them). I got it in trade for a tiny little Danelectro (tube) that I purchased for $2 because the power cord had been cut off and it was missing a fuse. I replaced the fuse and power cord and the Danelectro was great! With the exception of a Fender Tremolux that I used to have, the little Dano was the best sounding amp I've ever played.

The Twin Twelve I had was actually pretty clean-sounding: not a ton of gain on the front end. Now I'd probably really like it! I moved and left it with my brother, who (I think) still has it. He also has my Tremolux, but it died and didn't look like it could be revived: bummer, because it was such a great-sounding amp.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON Jan-09-06 AT 07:28 PM (EST)]It's really funny how times change. I've seen many of these amps back in the mid 60s. At the time we all thought that they sounded like crap. They really are not very good amps. Sears sold a boat load of them. Every year before Christmas the Sears "Wish Book" (Christmas Catalog) was filled with that cheap crap. Kids would see it and plead with their folks to get them an electric guitar and amp so they could be like the Beach Boys or the Beatles. If they learned to play they couldn't wait to get rid of that stuff and buy a Fender or Gibson. I laugh every time I see how high that old Silvertone, Airline, Harmony, etc... stuff goes for on Ebay. It was crap back in the day and it still is. Do yourself a favor and buy a good tube amp or a good solid state amp. Forget that old cheap stuff. It ain't worth what they're asking for it.
