Amp Problem

Postby TC90 » Sat Aug 02, 2008 7:34 am

Hey fellow bluesers. A friend gave me a Peavey Backstage 110 that does not work properly.
Plug in and it's really distorted and then fades out.

Generally speaking, are solid states done when they turn south, or is there sometimes an "easy" fix?

Thanks and keep on bluesin' 8)

Sounds like a bad power transistor...if you've got access to a good Oscilloscope, you can probably find it. Replacing it would be a little tricky with a Peavey PC board. All in all, you'd probably be better-off replacing it [the amp]. Solid state electronics seldom go south, but when they do, it's not as simple as replacing tubes or caps. There's a reason for the label that says, "No user-serviceable parts inside." Sorry.
