Best Semi hollow body guitar for $1,500 -$2,000?

Postby Derekslide » Tue Jul 15, 2008 10:15 am

As the topic states! Whats the very best semi - hollow body guitar out there for $1,500 - $2,000?

I'm looking for one that's going to Sound good & loud with out an amp. But I also want it to sound good and loud with amp amp as well.

I'm currently looking at the Gibson es series guitar. I was going to get a standard Sg but I'm liking the acoustic sound better.

The Semi-hollow guitar is the most versatile electric guitar on the market.
It's a very good choice.

IMO, the best Hollow-body guitars on the market are the Ibanez models.
I gig with 2 of them, a AF-95 and AFS 85 TNT.
Never had a problem with either one and they're both totally stock.

I leave my Taylor and Valley Arts guitars at home.
The Ibanez guitars do just fine.

The Gibson is a very good choice.
Just watch out for Quality Control issues.
Play a bunch of the Gibsons and pick out the best one.

I saw a Gretsch in music store in Paducah that had a $1,200 tag on it. I didn't plug it in, but it felt really good. Great action and very solid feeling. I always assume everything in Paducah is a bit higher than you would have to pay anywhere else.

Not trying to be mean but how could you not have played it and knew it had great action?

Yeah I may be a newb still but something smells a little bit odd with your statement here
Great action

IMHO: What Gibsons used to be. Heritage guitars. I have a 535 and would marry it.

Sorry bro, but I'm not going to spend my hard earned saved money on some guitar from from cheap *** place that sells cheap *** clones.

And bro I have enough money saved right now I can BUY a Gibson es-335

That would be going to good music music store and buying this cheap $150 sg clone when I could easily spend $300 more and at east get an epiphone from gc.

So I'm going to stick with name brands like Ibanze, Godan, Cort.

A semi-hollow is only going to be a bit louder acoustically than a solid body. Look at a fully hollow archtop if you want acoustic volume.

ES-335s are great guitars. I was looking for a 335 and I bought an Eastman instead:

The model's homepage is here:

Lots of info here:

The semi-hollow bodies now are much more hollow, thanks to a smaller sustain block in the middle of the guitar.

You will overpay for a Gibson, new or used. I would suggest buying a used Heritage instead. They are made in the old Gibson factory in Kalamazoo MI, by luthiers that began working for Gibson back in the 1950's and 1960's.

You won't find a better guitar for the price. There is a used one right now on the Elderly website.

HERITAGE H-535 (2001) - 535 is their version of the 335.

killeriguana, Nice I wish I could get it now but I have to wait until the end of September, when I go on my trip.

But does she sound like a "FULL ACOUSTIC"? Because I'm falling in love with the acoustic sound.

I would say it does not. It's a semihollow.
