Yep. And if a series bulb burns out, it gets very quiet, very quickly. You want bulbs not quite heating to full brilliance at full power, and you've got to have power transformer protection from voltage spikes if the bulbs go. (i.e., make sure something like 20x the normal load impedance is left across the output.)

It's no new idea, it's been done for decades. Hammond used a series bulb limiter in their organ reverb driver circuits.
