Lyre vibrato

Postby guitarslim101 » Wed Feb 21, 2007 3:58 am

Anyone have any experience with the Maestro Lyre vibratos? I've been thinking of getting one to put on that firebird copy I've been working on (and will start working on again very soon). Do they work well with heavy strings, say .012-.054?

I had 2 Ibanez firebird copiesin the mid to late 70's (set neck, banjo tuners) .Both had "fake"Maestro units on them, and i removed both of them, replaced them with a stop tail piece.I am not a user of vibrolo ,tremolo arms... so i did not miss them, but I noticed the guitars souned better without them... ps Iwas using Gibson Sonomatic mediums (i think they were also 12-54)

Yeah, the more I think about it, the more I think I'll just put a stop tailpiece on. I can always add something else later...probably a bigsby.
