Spider Cone Adjustments

Postby NEONMOONY » Wed Oct 11, 2006 10:18 pm

I usually keep my spider reso in open G. I normally keep another guitar in open D. I thought I had a good tension on the reso cone in G. Last week, I went on trip and took the spidier reso with me. When I changed to open D for some songs, the cone rattled a little. Do you guys keep the cone tight enough to go up and down in tuning? If you intend to change tunings while playing, you don't readjust the cone with tunings do you? Should I be adjusting the cone to a lower chord like open D? Thanks.

I originally posted this in Slide and Bottleneck and decided it belonged over here.

When I had a spider, I kept it adjusted TIGHT all the time.

The recommended range is between 1/4 to 1 full turn tight. I went a little beyond that. Use caution with that approach, though. You can dent the cone, bend or break spider legs, or strip the screw.
