Old Ventura ES-365 copy

Postby Mississippi John » Wed Jun 14, 2006 1:56 pm

I've got an old (I'd say 60s or early 70s) "Ventura" es-365 copy. It is plywood but has many nice flourishes, including faux mother-of-pearly pickguard, headstock plate and pick-up rings, and genuine m-of-p rectangle fretboard markers. The neck is also VERY nice - some sort of birds-eye maple type wood with a rosewood board and very nice, wide and smooth frets. Needless to say, the machine is worth doing some work on, and since I've had it nearly 20 years, it is long overdue.

Any information or experience with Ventura japanese copies from the 60s or 70s would be interesting ...

Anyways, the main prob is that the pickups are dead. I'm considering buying some cheap Diesel-brand pickups just to put in to make it playable again. Anyone use these and have an opinion? I can't find ANYTHING on the net, and this is troubling.

Also, the unit has a very ugly roller bridge with plactic rollers. I'm considering replacing this but would rethink if their was some advantage to the roler bridge.

many thanks in advance!

"Almonte is located on the Mississippi River, 48 km southwest of Ottawa..."

Our Mississippi River is only about 300 km long, and it has no Delta - that's why I can't call myself "Delta John". In fact, I think there is a hydro-electric dam where it joins with the Ottawa River!! ("Electric John"?)

Anyway, I too thought is was kind of wierd when I moved here from the other end of the province some 400 miles away!!!

Cheers.

Sounds like one of those automatic flushers.

Or worse, an analog to the "Electric Chair."

Wow! I never heard of "that" Mississippi and it can't be too far from here as Ottawa is about 60 miles northeast of me. Of corse I am on the other side of the border. I'll have to check it out.

O.K. So I checked it out. It's about 45 miles north of me as the crow flies. Learn something new every day.
