Need some advice on replacement speakers

Hey,

Need some advice....

I have a 1992 Fender Vibroverb 1963 Reissue. Brown tolex, wheat grille. 2x10.

I bought it new at Sam Ash in White Plains NY in August 1992.

Anyhow, it's stored in the basement of my summer house on Cape Cod. I came back to check on the house last week and found the friggin mice ate the cones!!

The amp came with garden variety ceramic magnet Oxford goldframes speakers. So, instead of re-coning, I've made a decision to repalce the speakers.

Question is....with what?

Please give me some suggestions! Thanks!

Not being of a techie disposition, I wouldn't know, but a point to consider is what's available in mainland Europe or the UK as well as the American options. For UK/Europe info, I'd try a pm to Darowyn, retired head of music technology at Worcester College, so he might have a vague idea what he's talking about.

Luckily, this amp and my amp guy are in the US. So, there is quite alot to choose from and the prices are good.

My amp guy is pushing kendricks ($150 each) or webers ($95 each).

Hey Wanderingyankee
My vote went for the Webers, I think they are the 125 or maybe the 150's can't remember without looking that up on their website.
That was gonna be my choice when I put my Bassman together last year and after emailing Ted before his passing I almost did. But at the last minute because I didn't want to wait the 30 days for them to be made I opted to get the Eminence Rajin Cajin 10" from MF as they had a holiday weekend sale and I got them both for $120.
I'm pretty happy with them.

Thanks BD.

I aspire to play straight into the amp without any pedals/boxes. I want the amp to break up on it's own so I can control tone/overdrive with my guitar's volume and tone knobs.

I have been advised to seek speakers that are a more primitive design and less efficient which would accelerate breaking up. I was told the Kendricks do just that....apparently the specs were copied from the speakers in a 59 bassman (?).

Can anyone add further insight?

I have liked all of the Weber speakers I have tried.

I've used Webers for years. Ted always came through.

Then I got hooked on the Celestion Gold 12" speakers. When they came out with the Celestion Gold 10", I had to try it in one of my BFPR.... I love it.
