SX guitars?

Postby rustyslide » Wed Dec 07, 2005 5:04 pm

Was poking around Rondo's site last night, just because I like tempting fate, and I have to say that the [link:www.rondomusic.net/sst57.html|SX SST57] looks pretty tempting; the reviews are almost universally positive on Harmony-Central, from people who've claim to have been playing 20-30 years. On some other sites, I've read mostly positive things as well, though apparently some people needed to do fret work on them.

I've wanted a second Strat for non-slide playing, especially one with a nice big neck (which these apparently have).

Anyone have any experience? I know there are several people who love the Agiles that Rondo also sell.

do you know if any stores such as guitar center or sam ash deal these? If they sound at least as good as a squire strat I think thats a great price.

How can you go wrong for $99? Looks nice. I'd give her a try.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON Dec-07-05 AT 03:27 PM (EST)]Well, they have a $40 US 'customs' fee for orders to Canuckistan, which makes it $50 (Canadian) more expensive for me. $216 (grand total) is still pretty good :)

I'm pretty sure from my readings that Rondo is the only US distributer.

Rondo are very good folks to deal with. I'm sitting here at work with my beloved Agile AS-820 with P-90s.

Hi,

I recently bought a vintage white SX SST57 - if you discard the best and worst reviews, the rest are pretty accurate IMHO. It feels great to play, the pickups are fine, it sounds like a fender; for the price, it's a great buy. The metal parts (tuning heads, switch, bridge etc)don't seem too sturdy, but if I need to replace them I will.

Speaking of Rondo.... If you need a case, try out those aluminum road cases for $89.00. Talk about bang for your buck.

The SX Strat is worth the the money. It's better than a Squire Strat. Rondo Music imports the SX guitars from China. Their Agile line of guitars are made in Korea. Agiles are VERY good for the money.

Rondo never got back to me on my question, so no ordering from them.

I ended up ordering a Fender Japan guitar from a reputable dealer in Japan, and it got lost in the mail. I'm not out any money, luckily, but it's frustrating.

I dunno. I wanted to know what the $40US "Customs" fee they wanted to ship to Canada, and whether it meant I wouldn't have to pay duty on it or some other thing.

The folks at Rondo are usually very helpful. I've owned several of their guitars. I really have enjoyed this one:

[updated:LAST EDITED ON Mar-05-06 AT 09:54 AM (EST)]Has anyone tried one of their tele copies? Particularly the SX-STL50?

I'm a big Squier fan but this is about $50 cheaper than the Squier Affinity Tele.
