Read a Post Here saying JLH had a mic in his shoe to amplify his stomp. How would one go about building one of these thing(first you need a shoe!)Just think it would be kinda cool to use.

Glue the guts of a doorbell to the bottom of the shoe.

Mind you, it's probably easier to stomp on a board and mic that but to each his own.

I've got a video of JLH, "Legends of the Delta Blues", by Vestapol. On it, his 'foot stompin' seems amplified, but no evidence of electronics is visible. He was on a wooden stage which might account for the volume. He could really do some nice accompanyment with his shoes.

I don't know about JL Hooker, but I successfully built a stomp board out of a scrap 12"x18"x4" desk drawer and a schatten resonator transducer. The pickup sounded poor in my Delphi and was just collecting dust. I adhered it to the "bottom" of the the drawer just off center from where I would stomp (or more accurately tap) my foot, drilled and attached a bolt through its hole to hold it in place and ran the signal through a Baggs Para Acoustic DI direct box with the bass boosted and highs rolled of. I'm damn'd if it doesn't sound like a kick drum. Of course you could buy a "Porchboard" for the cost of the pickup and PADI, but I had them already. I'm sure any acoustic transducer would work just as well.

You can get just about any size Piezo at Radio Shack for under 5 bucks. Seems like that'd do the trick!

Don't try to board an airliner with a pickup in your shoe sole and wires hanging out.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON Mar-29-06 AT 02:03 PM (EST)]I recall reading somewhere about JLH using a piece of plywood under his foot to make his footstomping louder in his early days of playing solo, but I really don't think he actually "amplified" it by any other means. You just need shoes with hard soles, and strong leg muscles!

I'm positive he didn't use "foot amplification" he just played his guitar and stamped his big foot in time.

Saw a guy some 20+ years ago in a small dive...just a guitar and a mic playing his ass off. He had a mic duct taped to the floor for foot stomping...very effective.

Guy Davis does that, works very well for him too.

I'm pretty sure that the liner notes in the Hooker N Heat album states that they put a mike on the floor to pick up John Lee's stomps. I'll dig out the album and check it when I get home tonight.

Wonder what the Homeland Security airport screeners would think of Maxwell Smart's shoe phone?
